I live in Texas, and purchased a Hornby A4,the Woodcock, for a friend and fellow modeler’s birthday. He is from Yorkshire and is a fan of LNER. I installed a Loksound decoder, and he just loves the locomotive but now needs coaches behind the lokie.

Who makes appropriate coaches for the run from Kings Cross to Edinburgh on LNER in OO scale ? Attached photo on my layout in Tyler, Texas shows the A4 4493 along Southern Pacific’s Sunbeam 652 of the same 4-6-2 arrangement. Our locomotives use headlights as there are numerous street crossings at grade. I am quite impressed with the Hornby model, though it is very lightweight compared to the brass HO scale Sunbeam engine of the Southern Pacific.

Thompson coaches would look okay with engine made by both hornby and bachmann in his version of teak

If you are not too fussed about fine detail ( In which these are actually not bad), the older Hornby LNER coaches can be found at exceptionally good prices for what they are. The only reason why they go so cheap is that Hornby made so many of them.

Small point of accuracy.

Gresley coaches in teak livery are generally OK. These were built before World War 2.

Thompson coaches were built after World War 2 .

The A4 Pacifics were originally painted either silver, blue or green. however the silver and green ones were all painted blue before World War 2 so a LNER green one would not have worked with a Thompson carriage.

During the War most of the A4s were painted plain black.

After the War all the A4s were painted LNER blue again.

From 1949 some A4s were painted in BR blue, these were all eventually repainted in BR dark green.

Not correct with the model of 4493 Woodcock though as by the time they were introduced the skirting covering the motion had been removed and the loco possibly repainted in unlined black.
