I remember as a young teenager making my first train spotting trip across from Glasgow to Edinburgh Waverley where I bagged many new loco’s....... about halfway thru the day I was at one of the remote platforms when I heard this amazing sound from the other side of the station...... I headed over at a fast rate of knots and there was my first Deltic - I can’t recall the number but looking thru the models released today, “Nimbus” jumped out at me.

Ever since that day, Deltics have remained one of my favourite loco’s and so when I saw the announcement today I just had to treat myself to one of the sound fitted versions - sadly “Nimbus” is not available in the BR Blue that compliments my layout era, but I am sure “St Paddy” will do just as fine........ going to be a long year waiting for it to arrive but at roughly a fiver a week, it just had to be done !

In the mail this morning, one of my favourite Xmas cards of all time......a wintry Deltic scene from these nice people at Accurascale…….a really classy touch towards their existing and future customers...….

For those who might be of interest, the card depicts "a snowy scene at Newcastle Central on 14th Dec 1981, as 55013 "The Black Watch" departs with the late running 2330 Kings Cross to Aberdeen Sleeper, while 55007, "Pinza" waits in the background with the 2355 Kings Cross to Edinburgh service"...………….oh, the good old days and I for one am looking forward to recreating something similar on my layout when my pre-ordered Deltic arrives from Accurascale in 2019...…...might have to indulge in another to actually recreate this scene, but all in the name of being prototypical of course.

Merry Christmas everybody...…...

They are looking nice Brian.....You know after buying my first Diesel loco which was the NRM Bachmann Deltic Prototype I am beginning to warm to having few diesels. Tongue in cheek. I always said I will keep to steam.

As models go, I have to say that the performance from todays 00 gauge diesels is incredible. One person had not bothered cleaning his wheels or track because his loco just didn't show signs of hesitation and this was over a lengthy period of time. (I seem to recall two years were mentioned, though I don't remember who said it and on which forum). All wheel (Or nearly all wheel) drive and all wheel pickups. You can't go wrong. The only issue they have had and is a rare exception is the odd batch with chassis rot.
