Don't worry about the company names too much, look to see who underwrites it and user reviews.
The other thing to watch with cheaper quotes, is windscreen cover. It used to be standard but now a few cheaper quotes don't include it.
Its a hefty bill for a new one on a lot of cars with sensors and cameras !
In the last few years my insurance has gone from a fairly consistent for several years circa £200 previous to 2019, climbing every year since, to around £450 this year.
My new to me car is a few insurance groups higher, but is also the first non new car (nearly 4 years old) I have had for a long time, and hence it value is a lot less than previous cars. I do sometimes feel they just pluck their prices from thin air !
I always do the compare sites and usually haggle the current insurer to match or better, but this year when I tried, i got an automated " if you are phoning for a better price, we have already given you our best price" message, so they didn't get my business ! At 57 years old with max no claims, no convictions etc, and in a relatively low risk area, I thought they might like to keep me on
I think part f the reason is my new to me car is a few groups higher as its a higher theft risk vehicle, but if I keep it in a locked garage, the insurance costs more than if it is parked in the driveway
