Homebase
Our local Homebase is closing down. I went in there today - loads of "stuff" heavily reduced. The guy at the pay counter said they still had ninety(90) artic. lorries of goods to get rid of. It would appear B&Q are taking over the store - it's a lot bigger store than B&Q have at the moment and more car parking. Lots of good deals, but then you think do I really need this??

Re: Homebase
We already have a Range Brian - it's huge - it takes about an hour to walk around - two if the wife is with you
I expect Basingstoke is the same as many towns, everything is closing down - Wilco had a huge store in the town centre, they have gone, Debenhams went some time ago, and WHSmith went last week. However, if you want shoes, a Turkish Barber or your nails done, we are inundated. Such is life

Re: Homebase
Sounds like Wycombe. House of Fraser closed, but we have an HMV, all the banks have branches and coffee and cake is everywhere.

Re: Homebase
Our town centre is dying. Homebase went in favour of the Range. The banks are closing with talk of the post office going as well. All we have are charity shops, vape shops, phone shops, hairdressers up the ying-yang, tat parlours and coffee shops with estate agents as back stop.
The local council does not appear to have a logical plan that limits the number of same genre businesses, in some cases next door to each other.
Now they have closed our local doctors surgery and off loaded us onto the other 2 surgeries that cannot cope with their own patient loading, much less the 4000+ from our surgery. This is on top of cancelling the local elections due to a national council reshuffle (gov.clandestine) so we can't even voice our opinion at the polls.

Re: Homebase
My local Homebase went downhill when the Aussies took over. Half the internal store lights were switched off. Since the Aussies left the lights have all been switched on but all that does is show how tatty the store look. Understand it will become The Range but hopefully there will be major refurb first.
Re: Homebase
When the nearest Homebase to us went Aussie, it was great, a wider range of stuff at better pricing. The consensus was it wasn't as popular, IDK why as I much preferred it. Then back to Homebase and now set to become the Range, could be dangerous as the Wife works a few buildings away !

Re: Homebase
One of the problems with Oz taking over Homebase was the fact they got rid of all the managers and put their own in. Trouble was in the winter they were selling BBQ's and in the summer electric heaters.
