Diesels to Glenburnie Station

#1

Post by glencairn »

As some people know, I run two train services (steam and diesels engines) on the same track layout.

Here is a plan of the layout and the services that run on the diesel days.
IMG_0753.JPG
Diesel Train Services

A -- Fiddle Yard. Is 'The Junction' for all trains north and south that passes Wyndham Farm.
The line over the bridge to the Fiddle Yard is not used on diesel services– B -- Diesel Engine Shed. C – Glenburnie Station. D -- Sovereign Street Station and Yard.

1 - Wyndham Farm. 2 -- The Ash Farm Fields. 3 -- J H Thompson Builders Merchants. 4 -- Marston's Scrap Merchants and house.

5 -- Small Industrial Estate. 6 -- The Bridge. 7 -- North Road. 8 -- Winterwood Manor.

Glenburnie is just south of Newburgh. The Newburgh & North Fife Railway left the Edinburgh & Northern Railway line at Glenburnie Junction.

Glenburnie in model form lies north of Ladybank and south of Newburgh in Fife. It is a terminus station originally served by The North British Railway Station. Like in many places throughout Britain, what were small towns are now growing larger. Glenburnie is one of those towns.

To accommodate the firms at Sovereign Street (a former North British Station on the North Fife Line), a single line was built from Glenburnie to Sovereign Street. The old line past North Road and Winterwood Manor was relaid and services resumed.

East Coast Services.

Passenger trains from Edinburgh and London Kings X arrive at The Junction, pass Wyndham Farm, the diesel shed, J H Thompson's Builder's Merchants and into Glenburnie. Because there is no run round at the station (deliberate), engines are changed for the onward journey to Aberdeen. All services are by Class 55s

West Coast Services

Passenger trains from Glasgow and London Euston arrive at The Junction and travel the line to Glenburnie. Once again engines are exchanged and the train continues to Inverness. These services are by Class 52s.

Passenger services are also ran from Edinburgh to Inverness and Glasgow to Aberdeen plus a local services Stirling to Perth. Classes 25, 26, 27, 37 and 47 are dedicated to these runs.

There are also Pullman services, Mail Trains, Parcel traffic and the 'odd goods train'.

A DMU runs from Perth to Ladybank; another from Glenburnie to Auchtermuchty. They also run to Sovereign Street and travel the 'old North British' line.
