Peco points spring install

Hi, besides patients, any hints on doing a Peco points spring re-installation. I have had 2 come out & i found it far less frustrating to just change the points for new ones for now. But, would like to repair the two broken ones. I have got small long nose pliers & alike, but it still feels like I am in a Gulliver's travels story with a JCB.
Would love to see how Peco do this as I am waiting for one of the springs to go"bong", flying off & never to be seen again. "Slippery little devils"

They can be trying. I found it easier with tweezers, those with curved tips. You will also need to find something to keep one end of the spring in it's position whilst you "convince" the other end to fit. R-

I guess this is the lazy way out but when points start loosing springs and things start to go wrong with them I just replace it.
I do understand that the cost of some are quite high like double slips and some of the larger special types I may try to repair on those but would not bother on a smaller cheaper point. Rather spend a tenner and save time.............. John

It really is not difficult with the right equipment and the satisfaction of making a viable repair is immense. R-

Why not just ask the Peco Technical Bureau if they will repair them? I recently had two double slips fail because the blades became loose in the tie-bars after many years use, and kept popping out causing derailments. Peco said send them to us and we'll fix them. They replaced the blades and tie-bars and all it cost me was the postage to send them in.

Alternatively, if you're using PL-10 point motors then just fix the motor via a PL-12 adapter base as this includes an over-centre spring. PL-12 costs about £2.80.

I can also vouch for the fact that the spring is fairly easy to re-fit as I've done several. Peco will also send you replacement springs FOC.

That is the best advice RFS. I thought of saying that only I was not sure if Peco still ran that service. They always did good job. Yes that is the best way to go I reckon. ................. John

If you are using Tortoise or DCC Cobalt motors then you don't need the spring. I don't know whether that is of any use but it does stop you having to worry about them.
