track cleaning
Don't know if I am in the right section but I have just bought a CMX track cleaner. The advice with the machine is that initially I should use something like acetone (nail varnish remover) and subsequently use IPA. Question is will acetone affect sleepers, plastic on points etc? Advice on this would be appreciated especially just what should I put in the CMX?
Thanks in anticipation

Re: track cleaning
I'm very much a novice here. I was advised to use IPA and I would say it certainly fetches the muck off and doesn't leave a residue.

Thanks fellers.
Seems like the CMX people are talking rubbish and acetone is to be avoided so IPA it is then.
Thanks again

Re: track cleaning
Certainly, aggressive solvents are to be avoided such as acetone, MEK Pet ether as they can attack a range of vital components. Reading an American forum they claim "ACT6006" (marketed as a fine cleaner and lubricant for model railroads) in a CMX wagon not only cleans but adds protection without affecting traction. Anyone on this forum used it? Does anyone know what it is chemically?
How about graphite? They claim that a coating of graphite on a clean track, lasts for months. I would have thought traction may be a problem

Re: track cleaning
I've seen a few articles on the internet about using Goo-Gone in a CMX. Anyone tried it?
