What cars did you drive - when you were younger!!
Re: What cars did you drive - when you were younger!!
For the first 10 years it was Motorbikes only, then after a spell in intensive care I got my first car, a Vauxhall Viva, not sure what version, it was the one with the dog bone grill, had it a couple of years and put 2 engines and 3 gearboxes in it.
Second car was a Mk4 Cortina, 2Ltr Ghia with an auto box, it was like a Rolls Royce after the Viva.

Mine was a Fiat 500 bambino. Bought for $50 spent over $500 on spares before I crashed it up the back of a ford when I fell asleep at the wheel coming home from late night lectures at uni.
My Brother had a Riley Pathfinder, loved that car, and I had a Wolseley 24/80. That was the Australian version of the 15/60 where they squeezed a 6 cylinder motor into it. Gave me a liking for the " blood and custard"

Had a Primera saloon and that was one of my favourite cars ever. It was a dream to drive and very comfortable. But it suffered from rust. Up here it may have spent some of its life on Holy Island cars from there go over the causeway and suffer from salt water.Walkingthedog wrote: ↑Wed Jan 23, 2019 10:39 am Learnt to drive in a Minor 1000 then an Austin Cambridge. My first car was a Ford 100E then a Beetle. My dad bought a Renault 4 and gave me his Hillman Minx, that was a good car, the year I got married. Then I bought a Renault 4, Allegro estate, followed by a succession of Astra estates, Nissan Primera estates, Almeras, then a couple of Ford Fusions, now a Ford Bmax.

The Primera was a fantastic car. My son had an old KA that must have lived on the Holy Island causeway
The only parts that weren’t rusty were the tyres.

I was a motorcyclist for several years, then bought a very 2nd hand Austin A35 van, which lasted 10 months before dropping to bits. I sold it for scrap for £35, which was £5 less than I'd paid for it. Then, after a return to motorcycles, for a short spell a brand new Fiat 126, which was traded for a Mini 1000, I slowly graduated to larger cars, usually bought new, or ex-demo, until two years ago I sold my last car a 9 yr old Toyota Auris I'd bought new. Now my wife's Toyota Yaris Hybrid is our only car, and while I do drive it, it's not 'my car'.

My dad had an A35 van with rear seats fitted. He bought it privately from my cousin's workmate. Dad didn't know how to drive but had lessons with my uncle and passed his test in the van on his third attempt.GeoffAlan2 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 1:17 pm I was a motorcyclist for several years, then bought a very 2nd hand Austin A35 van, which lasted 10 months before dropping to bits. We went to many places in that van. Very fond memories of travelling in the back with my brother. It was only a year old when dad bought it. I did drive it a few times while I was learning to drive. It was eventually written off in an accident while it was parked outside my dad's work place by one of his colleagues. Replaced by a secondhand Hillman imp.

Nobody has beaten my 1939 Morris ten yet have they, or did I miss it. Is there a prize

John, I think the prize is actually surviving some of the cars and bikes we have driven.
