Jencaster - 1930's LMS OO gauge layout

#1

Post by IanLMS »

Over the last 5+ years, I have been constructing my 14' x 12' OO gauge layout "Jencaster". Its a permanent layout, basically a double track oval, 6 hidden sidings, goods yard and wagon sidings.

Baseboard was constructed using 2" x 2" and 2" x 1" softwood frame topped off with various baords which I had lying around. Wardrobe doors, kitchen cabinet carcasses, ply off some pallets and rear hardboard from old chests/wardrobes. Although it used up a lot of junk wood and got it out of the way, in hind-sight, it would have been simpler and better just to have got 3 sheets of 8' x 4' ply!!

I am well on the way with the layout and now adding detail, improving scenics etc, but have also gotten into building loco, coach and wagon kits. Time consuming but extremely satisfying!!

Control is now DCC utilizing the excellent Roco z21 and Multimaus handset for loco control with a samsung tablet and DCC Concepts ADS-8SX for point activation.

Most of the buildings are Scalescenes downloads, but a few of the major buildings are scratchbuilt (Station, goods shed and engine shed). I am also now adding a few etched brass sheds/stores/stables from Severn Models.

Great looking layout Ian, and a nice size too. I would certainly be interested in seeing more pictures.

That looks really good. It also gives us some inspiration to do likewise :D .

Thank you all for the kind comments. I will upload more pics as I go. The Black 5 is a Model Loco Ltd/DJH kit which is my most recent build project awaiting weathering. Currently working on some Parkside and Cambrian vans (CCT/Fish).

The layout hasnt ran for a few months other than testing the loco's I have built so I really need to dust everything off and get operating!
