Cold and grey here. The van trip went without a hitch. Then I open my emails to find that an old work colleague was killed in the accident on the M25 this morning. He was on the way to Gatwick - going on holiday. His wife is in a serious condition. I just hope this year gets better, I've already attended two funerals, one I couldn't attend and one still to come in February - now another one!

Gosh Barry, how terrible. I was just reading about the accident. A great loss for all concerned. R-

Thanks Roger and Brian - sometime life deals you a duff hand. The February funeral is someone Pam and I had known for a long time - his wife used to run the local cub pack. He was in the Brompton having a leaky heart valve replaced, during the op. they found three valves needed replacing. He was placed in an induced coma to assist recovery - which he did. He made such progress that he was moved from the Brompton to Basingstoke to finalise recovery and it made visiting for family and friends easier. A few days after arriving in Basingstoke hospital he got an infection and died. As you can imagine a real shock to the family - who were just waiting for the time when he could come home.

That’s the problem with getting older. I feel fine but have lost two old friends the same age as me in the last few years. That’s why I think you should do what you can while you can.

Hi fp,
hope you had a safe trip today? No snow at Coldstream but very heavy frost and icy mist/fog.

No snow here in Washington either - but it is very cold and it is forecast for overnight. There again, it has been forecast to happen overnight many times and not appeared here!

Been - 3 all day here, slight dusting of snow, but snow gates closed over the Glens.
A good covering on the Cairngorms should be OK for the ski and snow board fans,
