I've now fitted about twelve feet of 3rd rail - I think I'm getting the hang of it!

Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the south!
Well I've now laid thirty feet of 3rd rail. The tunnel/hill is currently off the layout - I ran the 3rd rail about six inches into the tunnel - purely for appearance. I've also painted most of the 3rd rail in track brown, which is a lot darker than rust - the black marker pen did make the rail black (obviously), but it didn't look right - the rail looked two tone. So painting over the marker pen ink(?) did give a patchy black/dark brown finish - you have to look very closely to see it, but I find acceptable.
One thing that has come become noticeable when painting an doing some finer work, is that the light in the room is not up to scratch. Some may recall that I have a SR style waiting room metal lampshade (I didn't paint it green), it has a 100w equivalent LED bulb, but as no light is reflected off the white ceiling, you can find yourself working in deep shadow - may have to re-think the shade.
Just had an email from MRD to say the Hornby Maunsell Restaurant Car (R4817A) is in the post.

Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the south!
Using the Woodland Scenics Rock Moulds the cliff face is becoming a "rock face". Looks pretty good at the moment, but it will be the finishing that will tell whether it was a good idea or not. When making the individual "rocks", when the plaster started to harden, I put three 1.5inch galvanised nails, head first into the plaster, when set, this allowed me to push the plaster rocks onto the foam hill. The rocks do have tremendous detail. I have been studying the Woodland Scenics videos on finishing.

I think they will become a greyish rock face. We do have a large white cliff face at the back of Portsmouth Harbour - inland of the M27.

Slow progress - but some progress - it should look a lot better when it's had the "Woodland Scenics Wash" treatment and some greenery added.
