Lucky guy to have one of the finest trout streams in the country so close.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 4:21 pm I've always fancied fly fishing - with the River Test close by!! There are some lovely youtube videos of fly fishing on the Test. A nice day, your own company, what could be better - I wouldn't even worry if I didn't catch anything. I used to go course fishing regularly in my youth.
This is where i fish.

This is a good clip of the three Queens leaving Southampton last summer, together with the Red Arrows and a firework display. Watch in full screen.

How things have changed - Enchantment of the Seas docking at Port Canaveral - came in, did a full 360 turn and will then dock, without the use of tugs - which I know is commonplace nowadays, but I remember when I was a kid, there were UK headlines, because one of the "Queens" had docked in New York when there was a tug/docker strike, and she did it without the aid of tugs.

I didn't see the ship as it was dark. Only signalled to it and had the reply. This was somewhere between 1986 and about 1990 at the latest.

It must have been HMS Uganda at that time. S S Uganda had already gone to Taiwan to be broken up.

Re: And another hobby.
I know the morse came across to me as SS Uganda. (I was learning some letters but knew the S letter off by heart). All I remember is a rough date which was between 1986 (When we moved up here) and the early 1990's. An elderly Canadian gentleman had me interested in signalling out to sea and bought me a book to record mesaages. I only did it for a day or two. It was a sizeable vessel when I compared it to the other fishing boats also out there at the time. It was dark but I could make out a rough outline of the boats and this was larger. We don't normally get too many things sailing locally due to it being a danger area de to Pendine weapons testing and also the shallow beaches nearby. On the main beach here when the tide is out we can have a mile and a half walk to reach the sea. When it is in it is right next to the sand dunes. (Here we have a great difference between high and low tides that has sunk many a boat in our harbour as people from away will not allow the slack needed and the boats can't rise with the high tides. I once saw the whole of Burry Port harbour car parks about two feet under water which came right up to the main road (Which is where the bus stop is today). Could not tell which bit was harbour or which had carpark or grass under it! I saw on youtube where they put the highest recorded tide on film but it was actually no where near as high as I saw it one morning as I went to school on the bus. On the youtube film it was about 6 to 8 ft lower.
