Ever so carefully and slightly adjsut the blade. It looks like the center part on the curve may have slightly opened out forcing the end of the blade to miss the edge? If so very gently push the centre of the curve of the blade inwards (As if one was attempting to straighten the blade) but be gentle. The tabs that hold the blades to the tie bar are normally quite fragile as are the blades themselves.
The other solution if it is a newer point is to send it to Peco and ask if they can take a look. I don't know if there is a charge, but phone them and ask.

The spring in question is so very hard to see - at least with eyes as old as mine. It seems to be in place. Here are two pictures as best as I could take them.

I'm feeling a bit lost with this now. Maybe I should replace the point? Helpppppppppppppp!

I've added some arrows where I think the spring is - sorry if I am being dim.

With no motor fitted it should jump across with a positive click as you move the tie bar by hand. And should then stay there with blade hard up against the rail.

I have the click. I don't have the blade hard against the rail. Maybe just a faulty point? It's going to be a nightmare to lift and fit to the three rails attached :-(

The tie bar isn’t being snagged by a fragment of cork underlay by any chance?

As MG suggested in post 11, give the point blade a little tweak.

I am so very grateful for all these ideas - thank you so much.

Tomorrow I will check a few more things out. I am certainly not going to the fiddle of lifting a point and replacing until I am certain there's no other option.

Thank you again. This is such a supportive and friendly forum.

There is quite a jagged hole in the cork under the offending blade, are you sure a piece of cork isn’t fouling the blade.

I had a similar thing and it was caused by a microscopic grain of sand.

If not I reckon the motor is to blame.

Thanks again, I'll have another look over the weekend. Almost inevitably it is the least accessible of all my points and will involve climbing on top of the layout. It was nevver going to be easy was it?
