Starting Over

Post by Chrishans »

Hello everyone!

It's probably been a good 2 years since I was last on this forum, in which time I've undertaken 2 projects.

One was a loft layout, which is still under construction, though all the track is layed down and I'm now working on scenery. Following the perimeter of the house means it was a very large undertaking and since I'm only 22, although I was 19 when I started it, I haven't quite got the experience most other modellers have. As a lot of the rolling stock belongs to my dad, his models date back to the 80's so I couldn't really get the detailed layout I wanted if I wanted to run a vast proportion of our models.

The second layout I started about two weeks ago which, when complete will be a 10 1/2 foot by 1 foot, DCC sound steam, shelf layout. For this one I'm hoping to go minimalist which works best in my opinion for narrower layouts. Mistakes which I made on the loft layout such as wiring and ballasting, which I'm particularly picky about, I'm determined to learn from. I want to improve my soldering skills and avert from using dark brown ballast which, at the time seemed to be the right option.

I’ve attached some photos below of both layouts which I’ve been working on.

It’s good to be back and I’m sure I’ll be on here regularly picking peoples brains.

Cheers,

Chris

HI Chris, welcome to the forum.

A someone famous probably said "age is no barrier to success". You have made more progress than you realise and more than some experienced folk.

Look forward to seeing more of your build.

You've made great progress! Welcome to the forum.

(You've made more progress than I have in 40 years - I did take 36 years off though!)

Hahaa, luckily I don’t have many commitments outside of work which I think helps.
