The new layout

Hello glencairn .
Patients is a virtue.
Take it you have not read thread from the beginning. I have only just started it and this thread will follow the construction of it. I have only got to the stage of building the base units and starting to cut my old base boards to fit the shape of the new room in this house which we have only last October moved into. So up to now not had a lot of time. You should be seeing some progress throughout the spring and summer.

Some more progress on the the layout. Have all the B/Boards in place now and started doing the life up section today. Have temp; hinges on it and some alignment clasps in the post, to hold it in position to keep the track aligned..
Here are some pictures of work so far.
Ready to lay some track soon once finish off the lift up section is finished. It is DC and will have folded 8 plan if I can fit it in and hope will be able to add an upper level with a branch line running up to a Country Station. Have not thought of a name for the lay out yet.

Any one have any ideas on a good way to hold the flap up safely in the upright position. Ideas welcome please. .......john

Been adjusting the flap to day and it seems to be nice tight and level at the joints. But not laid any track yet have been thinking of sticking it down with contact adhesive and then cutting it at the joints. Is that the best way. Any ideas............................John

Hi.
It might be to your advantage to replace the plastic sleepers with copper clad strip either side of the cut and solder the rails to them (rember to slice the middle of strip) then when the strip is screwed to the base board u have less risk of damage if u accidentally catch a rail passing thro ur flap. do this before cutting the rails and should help with lining everything up
As to keeping the flap upright on my dads layout we use a piece of timber with a sloped top on the hinge side of flap that holds the flap above the rest of railway when open. I haven't got a pic I'm afraid as that would be a lot easier to understand.

John......you need to have the hinges mounted on blocks above the track level in order that the the track on the flap lifts away from the join or, better still, have the flap hinged to fold downwards. When brought up to level it is then held horizontally by two shoot bolts.
