Re: Annual trip to Catalunya
Laugh! My brother used to go every year to Santander & then up to a place called Gijon for the cidra/cider festival.
But 2-3 years ago they had the worst crossing ever. But what made it worse is that it was so bad the captain wouldn't take the ferry into port through fear that it may have pushed the boat onto the rocks or harbour defence walls. So they had to ride it out for another 4-5 hours in the storm. Now he is normally good with boats, but he hasn't been back. lol

Re: Annual trip to Catalunya
Laugh with a sort of F1 related item. I was chatting on an old forum from where i used to live in Mill Hill. One lady put up a post in the section "What do you like about Mill Hill" She said moving to a road called Parkside in 1972. Ah! I posted & jokingly said you were the reason Graham Hill left Mill Hill. Now it starts to sound creepy, She said it was his house her parents purchased when she was in her early teens. The ironic thing was my father was a postman for that road for many years & met Graham quite a few times, "but not me". Then she came back after a while & she said her mother remembers my father as with the business her husband had often meant getting a lot of registered mail. Straight away she said was his name Pat, & yes it was. Now that's a memory from 40+ years ago of a lady now in her late 80s."The mother" Unfortunately Graham died in that air crash a couple of miles up the road near Elstree/Arkly.Steve M wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 1:34 pm Some of you will know from the old forum that I have a springtime habit of visiting Barcelona or Jerez for F1 pre-season testing.
I half expected not to be going this year, but my resolve has weakened and I booked my tickets this morning - I think this will be my 14th visit since 2008.

WTD was working ATC that night I believe.

Back from the trip and 5000 photos edited. They’ve made some changes at the track and finding a decent spot for a good view is getting tougher - the best ‘grandstands’ this year were two oil drums and three wheelie bins to get a view over the fencing.

Any predictions for the coming season. I have not seen any reports as to how Kimi was doing in the Sauber.
Re: Annual trip to Catalunya
It’s so difficult to judge from pre-season testing Barry, you never know what fuel loads they are carrying at any given time. And ‘top’ teams are known to run with extra fuel to disguise their true pace while the midfield will send cars out on just the whiff of an oily rag to please the sponsors.
At various points Toro Rosso, McLaren and Alfa all set ‘fastest’ laps while Mercedes and Red Bull were, in relative terms, slower than expected.
One thing is sure, the Ferrari is quick and stable - it looks hard to beat. The Honda engine in the Red Bull and Toro Rosso was very reliable so could spring a few surprises and it will be a good scrap between Haas, Renault and Alfa to be the best of the midfield.
Are you still thinking of going to the Mid Hants next week?

Re: Annual trip to Catalunya
Not sure if I will make it Steve. I'm meeting WTD and PP at the Basingstoke Show on Sunday 10th - so being out, possibly Saturdau and Sunday might cause a problem! -What day were you going? Barry
Re: Annual trip to Catalunya
I read that the ‘gang of three’ were meeting up on Sunday elsewhere.
I’m not working this week but I’m edging towards Friday but keeping one eye on the weather. Sunday was always a no-go this year as it’s my birthday.

I might be able to get over to the Mid-Hants on Friday. Let me know nearer the time - weather doesn't look to bad for Friday.
