Millholme Patriot 4mm Whitemetal Kit
Millholme Patriot 4mm Whitemetal Kit
My next project is a Millholme 4mm White Metal Patriot kit, which will be my 5th loco kit (after building a Craftsman 1P 0-4-4T, Cotswold 3F Jinty, SE Finecast 4F and a Model Loco Lt/DJH Black 5).
I got it cheap off Ebay, and the previous owner had partially assembled the frames and started on the footplate. It had sat in my drawer for a few months and last night I got the urge to have a go at it. Last night was mainly spent seeing how things fitted together and checking what parts I had. I part assembled the boiler, firebox and cylinders.
The kit has a very nice scale drawing which will hel a lot during the build. The prior assembled chassis may get replaced by a Comet one if it doesnt perform as well as it should!! Wheels will be Alan Gibson and I will probably fit a 1624 Mashima motor with Comet 2-stage gearbox with extender on the middle driving axle.

It’s worth having just for the drawing.
Nurse, the screens!
Re: Millholme Patriot 4mm Whitemetal Kit
I know - its a great drawing and really suprised it was in the box with the kit!
Re: Millholme Patriot 4mm Whitemetal Kit
First main issue with the kit is concerning the cab. When I compare the kit to the drawings there is clearly an anomaly. The height of the front panel, and the width of the roof are clearly wrong. Some level of modification is going to be required which will take ma a few hours to sort out. I will probably fashion a new front panel from plasticard or brass and try to extend the roof. The drawing shows to windows above the firebox but several photo's of the prototype don't have them. I need to do a bit more research to see if this only applies to certain numbers. I plan on using the nameplates and number from the LMS Patriot Project, 5551 The Unknown Warrior so will see what info I can find out from their website concerning the front cab panel.
Re: Millholme Patriot 4mm Whitemetal Kit
here is the progress so far on the kit build. The bosy is almost ready for priming/painting, and the chassis just needs pick up and brakes fitting. I may end up omitting the brakes to prevent shorts as space for the shoes is very limited. Once I have tested it fully in DC, I will fit the DCC chip.
Tender will be built next and prior to painting.

That looks stunning.
Your very organised bench will give us all a bad name by the way.
