How old is the CL40?
No WTG, it's fixed 12mm ply on top, with screwed down track and ballast. The 2nd radius in question is visible here. It now has the curved point joining the 2nd & 3rd radius, in the left side tunnel:

More stuff on top. Please excuse the mess........you know the what it's like :)

The arches are removable, specifically to attack points with a Dremel :D

The class 40 is 32-483 D338 and came out in 2015 I believe.

It takes ages to post a reply. I think it could be the pictures being a little large. The reason why they don't just deepen the flangeways in the frog is that stock with small flanges tend to bounce as they drop if there is a large frog on lets say... A curved point. Curved points have a larger area where the wheels could drop and bounce. It is all a bit of a compromise. The ideal compromise is to make both large and small flange vehicles run well. Take your time and try adapting a single point just to see if it makes a difference. Don't do any more points yet. Just this one, and check to see how other stock runs on it.

I have one particular set of points in the sidings where the wagons drop into the frog lifting the diagonally opposite wheel in the air. Wagons are only going at a snails pace, not sure what would happen at speed.

Yes, interesting MG, thanks.

Thing is, why should any wheel/flange have to drop at all?

I'm not trying to be contentious or anything but, I just can't get my head around the fact that, on every set of points, there's an obstacle for the wheels to negotiate.

For any more points shenanigans, I'll get some needle files and take it slowly as you said. At least they'll be easier to get at too.

Sorry about the big photo's, is this better?

That's what I'm moaning about WTD.

Get the Dremel out :D

That’s not true. I have many points and 99.9% are faultless. The one with the dip I mentioned is over 30 years old and has been moved many times. The frog is very worn.

Every set of points does not have an obstacle.

Curved points are notorious for causing problems unless the track is perfectly laid and the point are absolutely flat. I have two pairs that behave OK.

Sorry, I meant 'potential' obstacle, as in raised wing rails.

Thinking more about this, I have a Heljan class 28 that will crawl very, very slowly over any and all points without any hesitation or jumping around.

Maybe get a fleet of these and be done with it ;)

So it is a loco fault not the points. Like I said earlier I have one steam loco that dislikes a set of points. Only that loco out of a hundred. It is OK now. I have two of that loco and the other is fine.
