I would have thought that fitting a posh door bell would be a sign that you have something worth taking. If I was a burglar’ and first nine houses had normal bells, then you come across this posh one, would make you wonder, why it’s necessary. My doorbell is used less than twice a week, and is the same one that previous owner had, 20 years ago.

I have a 4 camera(hd 1080) CCTV system cost £130 olus some extra cables, so you can display all 4 on a monitor or click on 1 and then zoom in this is just enlarging a section of the monitor screen so it will go all pixally but a quarter screen is ok, there record onto a 1Tb hard drive and any alerts are shown on the replay display. If you using this to catch thieves be it inside or out side your property i understand you have to display signs to let them knowthere being filmed, mine is used to show visitor, postman and delivery vans, watch the dog in the garden, was it worth buying properly as it recorded a delivery van backing down the drive and hitting next doors fence.

The only reason I am getting this one is the previous owner runs a photo studio from the converted garage and has some expensive camera kit, hence her insurers demanded security.

The cost to her to remove the existing system and reinstall at the new address was almost as much as buying a new system due to cabling, etc, so we came to an arrangement that I would buy it and she could offset that amount against a new system.

I think cameras are a good idea.

Have to agree, it is a pity though and is a sign of the times.

For anyone looking for a CCTV bundle Aldi (I know they're not everyone's cup of tea) are doing a system for £179.99. Not sure what it's like but might be worth a look. Aldi 1080P 4 HD Camera Home CCTV Kit

Probably like most, everything in the house is replaceable. It's the mess that could be left which is more worrying. At night, we leave the porch lights, light on front, side and back of garage, back door light - all on. All are Dusk/Dawn lights with LED bulbs, very cheap to run, and they come on when your away. Luckily we also have very alert neighbours, and we all watch out for one another. We also have an alarm system, which has just been serviced. I'm on a "police alert/neighbourhood watch" scheme so do get emailed reports on a daily basis, and it is worrying whats going on in some areas of the town, but I expect we all have this problem.

I wouldn’t say having to have a camera is a sign of the times. People breaking in to houses is no worse now, it’s just camera's weren’t available.

Most CCTV systems with a CCTV DVR can contact you via immediate email & some you can talk back. Usually good to have one that records at home & the cloud in case they pinch the DVR. I would go for your own system. I live at the back of my place & with the CCTV i can see what's happening around the house 24/7. I have also got a really nice security lighting system that works at night for the lights & also gives me a bleep if anyone trips the PIR's day or night.

CCTV, cameras, lights left on, etc. Gosh, it would worry heather, massively, if she had to live with this kind of security, our neighborhood watch, is a passing tractor. Its 16 years since we lived in uk, and then we had deadlocks, and locks on windows. Here, electric shutters on all downstairs windows, give us the security we need, and that satisfies our insurers. I cannot imagine how we would begin to go about all this, if we ever returned, as it all looks very expensive. Lets hope all these gizmos protect your homes.
