I agree MG,
In my local dealer(models that is ) I saw for the first time N gauge kit and it's quite tiny, he said a layout is about half the size. He had lots of used OO but very little \N. I was surprised the Peco wagons were around £7-8, great but locos new out of my range, perhaps if Peco did locos?????
Tried my new rails on a board earlier, had an hour then couldn't take anymore , try again tomorrow.

Keep persevering, it will pay off. I'm further forward with my layout so once I get hacked off working on one part I move to another part. Coming back after a while with fresh eyes is always useful.

You're right Mick,
bought some more flexi yesterday and ready to go today, it's that there are so many perms so trial and error, chopping and changing. It's nice to get some electric to the track even though nothing is fixed.

I used flexi track a lot and it’s easy and you get a lot of track laid quickly, the only niggle I have is a very small one and that’s the loss of the noise of the wheels click clack as the go over the joints, I’ve considered cutting the track slightly on the top after the tracks fully down to give me the click clack back but at the moment I’ve not done any.
Have a break when you get bored and get back to It when your refreshed. I’m been on a rest for the last 18 months but will get back to it when I’m ready. Best advice I can give when first starting out is don’t try to cram to much track into your layout, leave plenty of room for scenery and check every thing twice so you only do it once and remember it’s your railway which gives you a lot of room for poetic licence.

Thanks for the tip Roger, it could have got crowded.
Not sure if I should post this here but.........
I'm not sure a 4'x6' base is going to get me what I want in OO. it's left me not even making the folding baseboard I was considering even though it's all propping up the wall. I bought a couple of s/h N scale locos and some track. Apart from it being a so and so to get the bogies on the track I could get it much nearer my original thoughts and even have a continuous loop. Still a bit undecided either way and will enjoy it whichever I choose. A trip to the local emporium is on the cards although I spent a bit on track for OO with him, I wonder if he'll do and exchange
Anyway, full stop now until I am decided.

Why not visit a few exhibitions which have on show a range of scales. I've pinched loads of ideas/tips since I started visiting. Hope you decide on a scale and get cracking - the starting point is always the most daunting bit.

I'm looking around for some local clubs to visit, my local dealer has a layout above the shop I believe, will have to have a chat and see if I can see it.
It's the choice, which way to go, more choice of s/h locos and rolling stock on OO but less chance of the layout I want. Definitely leaning to N at the moment.
