The "Ads" are not part of Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. AFAIK they are generated by the web browser being used.
You can download a free to use ad blocker, I use AdBlock on all my PC and laptops. There are several others too.

Installing a wired LAN in an existing property can be extremely demanding. Access to under floor areas, wall chasing and installation of data outlet boxes all are at times not something the average person wishes to undertake. Trying to get a LAN into the loft on a standard two floor house may well be beyond most people, as there is a need for access to the ceiling of the ground floor then get the cables up into the loft, without the cost of having a power socket outlet and perhaps lighting too installed in the loft to power some of these devices. Remember UK building regulations part P require any new power socket to be installed by a certified electrician or passed by the local council or inspected and tested by a qualified electrician. Not many home owners and certainly no one renting a property will want to go down that route or pay for it all! Hence the Plug in WiFi LAN systems gain popularity. WiFi boosters are also popular allowing stronger signals in many areas not reached by the master WiFi router. I note BT are even advertising then as part of their package now!

They are good as long as the box by the hub and the one near you PC are on the same ring main. Well the one I had needed to be like that.

Wi-fi extenders don't use the ring mains, they pick up a weak wi-fi signal and re-broadcast it, AFAIK.

So, the limits of a wi-fi extender will be down to the placement of the extender itself and the distance of a laptop from the extender.

Having said that, I have a friend who lives in a 18th Century house and he can't get a signal through the thick walls with or without an extender, so they don't always solve the problem.

If you can bear it Mijj you can get a box that goes into your house power supply sockets which will extend your WiFi signal range. R-

Another vote for Dell - you can only speak as you find. My current Inspiron is 9 years old and still does every thing I require from it. Not that I do fancy video editing etc, but I use it up to 8 hours a day for email, Facebook, Family Tree research, I player etc.
Luckily I have a local Windows genius who hates anything "mac" and only charges £10 per hour. He has recently done a massive upgrade with the latest version of Windows 10 and all is going well.

Yes, I have it installed on this desk-top as well as the lap-top. The adds keep on displaying though, and I am stopped from some sites because of it.
If you are using W10 without any adds I'd like to know how it's done.
