Why don’t they make all tank engines with enclosed cabs with a removable roof.

Ahh, I can answer that one. Because it makes it nigh on impossible to add crew :D

Exactly, I have always managed to get a crew in through the side opening but it takes ages.

Do I follow you correctly, TWD? A removable cab roof makes it harder to install the crew? On older models, of course, you'll be faced with a sitting tenant known as a motor.

Think TWD was saying the roof is fixed to make adding crew difficult. I have fitted crew without legs and even less before now to make them fit.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. It was also meant as a tongue in cheek comment. I too have also fitted drastically modified crew in such cases.

I have fed the crew through the side opening with a pair of tweezers only to drop it. Then have to fish it out before it glues itself upside down to the floor.

Adding crew to a diesel locomotive requires the body to be physically removed, surely the same could apply to tank engines. Fitting passengers in to carriages, ditto.
