Brian both Jane and I use Garrett 400i with nel tornado coils on
We have found loads
Gold sovereigns hammered quite a bit of silver coins all on land we have permission to go on
What are you looking to detect on
A highly recommended one for both sand and earth is the nox 800 fantastic reviews
Not cheap either at £850 ish

The bull head shilling is the first of the steam pressed coins instead of screw pressed

Thanks Shroomy, Its SWMBO who has a interest in the hobby, so im going to get her one as a surprise so she can do our land here. I think i will get a Garrett, so either a 300i or 400i or even a AT Pro ?

I am a complete beginner in this though, I need to read up on the machine and what settings are best used. I do know that I went for the best I could afford at the time.
Do you know of a forum for detectors?
Are you hoping to detect someones lost loco?
If so it will need cleaning and a service

Go for the AT pro then good resale value
But maybe look at putting a nel tornado coil on as deeper penetration but pin pointing takes some getting used to
Black Ada digging spades are good
And a Garret pin pointer pro 2
