That's very impressive. Any thoughts about some sort of guardrail in case of derailments? Perspex or a thin wire fence? I am really impressed with the structural work that you are making. It really looks good.

Got to make up a 160 of the images below out of 6mm copper tube or similar as i have already had a carriage thinking it was an Acapulco cliff diver. Was lucky it was only a coupling broke. But at the moment the fence would really hamper me till i get further on. Any other suggestions on a alternative to copper would be helpful remembering that it has to be strong as it's to hold an on30 from coming off.

Would perspex fitted at 90 degrees to the track base be an idea? At corners a little fence could be made instead.
I was trying to fathom the copper... That is to catch them if they have already left the board I'm assuming? My thoughts are to hold them on the train board area so they dont come off the board if they come off the rails. The perspex needs to be high enough to catch trains but not overly heigh that you can't occasionally clean the track, unless it is made removeable.
I have seen many high level layouts without guard rails and as long as trains stay on the track all is well. I've seen one clever person run trains along two lines which also serve as light fittings. You wouldn't have guessed trains can run there! However, it is risky as models being models... They sometimes have mishaps.
Your work is excellent. Its inspired me... Though being in a bit of a situation where I dont know when I will be relocating I can't try such a plan myself. If I do what are the chances that the very week I finish would be when we relocate! Is why I decided to just build a tiny portable layout.

It was a catch 22 with the board at this height of being able to see the train on the back rail. So i kept the board as narrow i could for two tracks & this meant bring the front track to nearly the front edge & with the overhang of on30 units there would be to much chance of them scraping/hitting perspex & it would also give problems with reflections off the plastic.

No worries. You can see more then I can regarding what could fit best as real life is easier then photos.
