A little further progress, a first attempt with using scatter material to create basic grass and well it green but badly needs some extra detail to improve it. Also got round to finishing the cinema kit with a printed backscene inside and a lot of lights which im happy with.

Looks as though you are making good progress. I know what you mean about the scatter. My first attempts made the whole area look like a giant well tended bowling green. R-

You will find that adding a light and patchy dusting of another shade of scatter, maybe even a coarse mix, will help. Then finish with a dusting of a autumn shade, burnt grass or straw to simulate long, dead grass and weeds.
Works with either scatter or static grass.

Practice is certainly the way forward, Static grass is going to have to wait as its not a spending priority just now and I think just adding some variation in colour and length will improve it. Around the edges will add some brushes and such to soften the transition away from the right angle too. I also need to work out what is going behind the station.

Thanks, Brain is right it is the Metcalf kit, I added in some pictures to the back of classic cinema/theatre internals and although some are a bit over scale it does at least mean when you glance through a door or window there is plush red and gold on show, it certainly was worth the time adding the lights and I think it was a good decision to put the 'porch' light rather than just having it illuminated from inside, it was the first time using those SMD LED, they are about 0.5mm square so very neat to install, lets see how well they do in a loco next

A signal box kit was picked up at Model Rail Scotland, a nice and simple Metcalf kit build. progress has been slowed as house sale progresses.

Hi Chris

You will get a better effect with the scatter by painting the board first - I finished my hill/tunnel by painting the whole thing dark brown and then adding Woodland Scenics Fine Scatter (Earth and Soil) and then finishing with a Course Scatter (Green Blend) - it just tones everything down a bit.
I haven't used static grass yet - and I'm not sure that I will - I like the finish I have. Barry (BB)

That really looks good Barry. The colours are just right.
