Re: Opinions Sought
Richard - you ought to do the track as well - it would all be the same colour - "dirty". BB
Re: Opinions Sought
Of course, all in good time...... I will be applying sleeper grime and black and oily washes to the track to make it suitably “dirty”...... just not at that stage yet.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 10:31 am Richard - you ought to do the track as well - it would all be the same colour - "dirty". Hi Richard - Of course - all in good time. I think of things to do, and then deal with it two months later. No need to rush anything. Barry

Re: Opinions Sought
Nothing for me to add regarding ballasting/colours but just wanted to say your modelling looks fantastic
Re: Opinions Sought
With Mrs Hound Dog away for the day I had high hopes of making great progress today with the depot on the layout, but the non arrival of some more "Ballast Bond" and a couple of other bits and pieces upset my plans somewhat...…...Now I know a certain outlet from a Steel making town has won Retailer of the Year for 2019, but one would have thought that an order placed on Wed evening on a 2-3 day second class post would have at least been despatched before Saturday morning...….I was waiting for the postman to arrive this morning when I recd an email to say my order had just been despatched - pretty poor effort against the standards one is seeing from elsewhere in respect to internet shopping.
Anyway rant over...…...I spent two or more hours tidying the workshop area in garage as too many tool, glues, paints and bits of railway had been left in various states of affairs and it was time to take stock and get organised......Having put my various scatters and ballast into empty "Kenco" coffee tins and labelled everything, I decided to have a go at some creating some greenery on the area adjacent to the Oil bund, and also started to apply a black wash to the depot tracks etc...……still much more to do as I want to deepen the gunge on the tracks and around the fuelling area, but need my supplies to do this.
No business travel for the next two weeks at least thanks to the Coronavirus (Company policy), so should be able to get a hour or so on the layout each night to keep things progressing...…...however as an added precaution I have also started to reduce the water in my whisky in order to keep any germs at bay.
PS - After my earlier rant about the deliveries, in frustration I stepped out to take the Hound for a walk along the beach and in doing so ended up missing the Postman, who tried to deliver a package with two sugar cube speakers that I ordered ( and which for some reason had to be signed for)….will now not get these to Monday and I was hoping to use one of them with a TTS decoder that I will be fitting to the nice new Green Diesel addition to the fleet......watch this space, she is a beauty.

Usually allow 4 or 5 days from most of the retailer except of course the one on the Isle of Man. Takes me ages to pack up one thing to post let alone hundreds and you want your things delivered in good condition.

I've experienced the same with them. They seem to take a long time between the online order to it showing 'in progress' on their system. After 1 day of 'in progress' I ring to check on this progress, which I feel is reasonable when you're ordering 3 items (locos) that show as in-stock. How long can it take to go to the shelves to pick the items? If they are so busy, they should employ more staff.Hound Dog wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 11:30 pm With Mrs Hound Dog away for the day I had high hopes of making great progress today with the depot on the layout, but the non arrival of some more "Ballast Bond" and a couple of other bits and pieces upset my plans somewhat...…...Now I know a certain outlet from a Steel making town has won Retailer of the Year for 2019, but one would have thought that an order placed on Wed evening on a 2-3 day second class post would have at least been despatched before Saturday morning...….I was waiting for the postman to arrive this morning when I recd an email to say my order had just been despatched - pretty poor effort against the standards one is seeing from elsewhere in respect to internet shopping.
Having moaned about that, the broken Flying Scotsman I referred to in a different thread took almost a week to get to them, according to them. Posted on Friday and not getting to them until the following Friday. I rang them to ask about the replacement to be told it will be posted on Monday and should get to me on Tuesday as it is coming by Parcelforce.

Re: Opinions Sought
You ordered it Wednesday evening, somebody looks at the order later Thursday morning (hopefully you weren’t the only person ordering something), packed Thursday afternoon too late for the last post (no not the one played at military establishments), posted second class Friday morning and you expect it Saturday, don’t think so, not second class.
Thought we weren’t supposed to moan about retailers on here as they are unable to respond.

At the risk of losing the whole thread of this posting, I paid for second class post from the Royal Mail, but expected a lot better than the third working day for the retailer to simply pick and pack ( they didn’t despatch until Saturday morning as per their email confirmation), but lesson learned and I will take my business elsewhere on any future requirements where time may be of the essence - end of subject, thanks

Trackshack is your best bet. Next day delivery. Excellent.
Think you last picture around the shed looks great. Nice and grubby where it needs to be.
