I use either painters touch by rustoleum, was available from homebase till my local one closed, or polyvine enamel which i get from craftmill, out of the two polyvine has a greater colour range, but the larger 100ml size is limited in colours, but i find these ones very cost effective and average around £4- £6 for the 100ml size depending on supplier and quantities bought, both these paints are acrylic enamels, and i have used both with great success on a range of substrates without primers,

Thanks Steve.
I have tried white matt emulsion as an undercoat for plasticard. It appears to be ok for acrylic, and not too bad with Humbrol enamel. But this still needs two coats to look it`s best.
