It’s called Black Tac, MG.
It’s actually used to hold wires, decoders and speakers in place but it is not used by the manufacturers to secure the motors.

Blu Tac is blue, Black Tac is - well it's black. The main difference is it has a stronger adhesive quality.

Thank you Ian. I did sort of work out thr colour difference
. I have Blu Tac but don't find many uses for it to TBH. I mostly use it for holding small items like figures to something solid whilst painting them thogh it s a bit stringy when removing. I certainly wouldn't trust it to hold a motor in place.

It is strong enough as I had a job removing a motor of a loco. When it would not remove even with some force I thought they had screwed the motor on somehow. I am trying to remember which loco it was as I believe it may have been a modern slower top speed 0-4-0 but it could have been a different loco. I can't remember. Strong stuff though.

Blu Tac I have rarely used because it reminds me too much like chewing gum. The thought of chewing gum turns on me somehow and makes me feel insideout! I avoid Blu Tac because I can get the same feeling. (I know it sounds wierd. I am funny like that! Haha!)
The black stuff somehow is not the same. It does not give me the turned insideout feeling, though if a bit sticks to my finger one gets the panic of trying to wash it off!
It is certainly strong stuff!
