If they are older locos it will be important to find out the stall current and ensure whatever decoder you fit has a max current rating in excess.

hi lais decoders i have been told will not work with a hornby select likewise hattons own decoders i would like some help with this as the truth of what i have been told regards bob i have two select units i want to use will i have to hornby decoders if the other decoders will not work

I have bought a couple of LaisDCC decoders and both times there was a disclaimer that the would not work with Hornsby select.
Modelling post war LMS. DCC control via Roco z21 & multiMAUS
