We had an air fryer you put spoonful of oil in and it cooked chips which were nice but the thing became a pain to clean so it ended up in the local charity shop. The reason it was supposedly healthy was because it made chips with less fat. We prefer having unhealthy chips :)

I always deep fry chips in a proper deep fat fryer with vegetable oil using the 3 step cooking method. Delicious chips. My brother uses oven chips which I find almost inedible.

Ours is Not noisy, Nor does it need a heatproof surface. Ans it makes perfect chips. You can adjust the time, Mind you, it is French. Heather refused to use deep fat fryer, cos of smell. There is No smell with ours.

Roger try frying them in lard or better still beef dripping in your deep fat fryer

Or better still, buy an Air Fryer, use tea spoon of oil, and live healthier

Hmm.... After all this discussion, I've just ordered one via Amazon and will be delivered on Wednesday! Its a COSORI Air Fryer, 3.5L Oil Free Fryer
Hopefully it works well and produces nicely fried items
If its exceeds 65dB I won't be pleased!! However, if it means I can enjoy fried food which is more healthier (that's a oxymoron!) then I will enjoy all its benefits.

BTW when I lived in Whitstable in Kent some 25 years ago a F & C shop cooked all their chips and fish in Lard or Dripping. Oh how lovely it tasted, but Oh my poor heart! :o

The chip shop at Beamish museum uses beef dripping and a coal fired fryer. Lovely.

The food is healthier Brian as it is not actually “fried” but cooked by forcing hot air around it. The use of ‘frier” in the name is marketing mumbo jumbo. Unfortunately the food produced by them is not to my taste, so Pub cooked deep fried chips it is in this household.

Had a chip sandwich for lunch today. Chip shop is a 3 minute walk from us. It was reading these posts that put the idea into my head. Who'd have thought model railways were unhealthy. :)
