Ok so things have moved on slowly have been working on plan and come up with this which I know is not right but close, the bottom right square is going to be lift up, the outer loop is going to be raised slightly (2") for a viaduct at back of layout Blue section will be lowered baseboard inner loop will be flat to baseboard.
The bit I am have a problem with is the Fiddle Yard/Goods Yard. I would like some area for standing Locos plus maybe engine shed (Going to run Steam and Diesels in my world) but as you can see right hand side by lift up board looks awful. anybody on here clever enough to help me out please.

Hi Gary

I presume the lift out section is there to allow access, room door/loft hatch? Why not rotate the layout 180deg so the much simpler track layout of what is now the top LH corner would be where you need the lift out. You would then have the option of either a whole corner lift out or simply two separate liftouts to accommodate the two double track sections.

Hi Gary - I'm sure you have this in hand, but make sure your "hillside" is lift-off. Just for track cleaning or the odd derailment you need access - foam insulation board with a plaster bandage covering is rigid but also an east lift (usually). On Wykeham the tunnel portals are the hand holds. BB

Thanks BB & Richard was the kick in the backside I needed spent last night rethinking and this is what I have come up with?? some curves and spacing that will be made better with flexi track and tracksetta guides when building

BB hillside will be lift off
Richard looked at rotating plan but want a senic side to layout and lift out boards need to be clear

Its been awhile but here is my plan as you can see baseboard is done please make any suggestions to any changes you feel may be needed for better operation of layout

Hi Gary, if the arrows are indicating direction of travel you should know that your preference is contrary to how UK railways run. They “drive” on the left. However, it is your layout.

You might want to consider adding more crossovers between the main running loops regardless of which way round you run. Currently a train will have to reverse to change track.

Looks good otherwise, I envy your space.

Looks good but as Roger states you need to be able to cross between main tracks in any direction. Ditto regarding driving on the left.

Great boards in a very nice space.

after many attempts this is my plan have changed it many times but think it looks ok now please feel free to comment I know nothing about railway running and if you think there is a tweak that will improve running please let me know, i thought that 11.6 X 8 was a big space but have really struggled to make it work for me.
The different colours are for sections as I'm using a Digitrax PM-42

Your benchwork, if I may say, is enviable. The drop deck is a particularly ingenious bit of foresight and planning. I look forward to
seeing your progress. I must say I feel a bit "had," like I've just gone up against a "Pool Shark." You say you are a newbie, but your
work thus far exceeds my most strenuous attempts. Well done! :)

No more advice from me, that would be silly.
