I stand by what I said earlier, however it seems there are currently some bargains on e-bay with reasonable postage (it will cost the seller as they've just used the standard postage suggested by the system rather than weighing the package!).

Stick to Hornby or Peco or Bachmann track and you can't go far wrong.

I remember trying to send a few yard lengths of track to someone by post as they wanted some finescale track to use for a display case setting and I happened to have a couple spare. I went to post it and the price was way more then the track was worth. I cut the track into shorter sections and it was standard second class postage of around £3 (Now £3.20). Had I sent it as it was and I would be well into double figures.
The key is with postage it to post things no heavier then a certain weight and no longer, taller or wider. (I seem to recall 46cm x 35cm x something! I know I can wrap about four 00 gauge coaches wide by a coach long (With a bit spare) and two coaches high if I am careful and as long as they don't weigh too much the postage is reasonable. Go over that and it starts to go up, especially if sending abroad).
Sending anywhere outside the UK these days is a bit difficult. Last time I tried we heard nothing for ages. About a month and a half and it finally arrived and it was only going from Wales to Ireland.
