hi, from a personal view, i prefer to build the base first. Eg, erect the 8 inch sides, so that the track can sit on them. That way, you have your long runs, and can lay out your bends ready for points/ sidings. As for lift up/ out section, many of us have these. You need to buy/ make some copper clad sleepers, where the track lifts/ drops in. By cutting out the end plastic sleeper, and soldering rails to copper, you have a sound connection. Mine, lifts up, so 8 sleepers needed.

Hello again. Great to see you are trying out some initial track plans. However, here is a thought - I am building an extension to my shed layout ie a third board. This time however I am constructing my main buildings first, placing them and then laying the track. I’m doing this because last time I laid track first and it compromised the size and location of some of my buildings. Just a thought but I’m giving it a try after reading an article in RM.
