Thanks Brian. The pictures were a bit of a departure for me as I stopped lugging my Canon DSLR around and used my phone for 95% of the pictures I took last week - I still don’t like trying to view a screen in bright sunlight and no glasses so it tends to be a bit ‘point and shoot’ so many of my horizons are well squiffy!

Really annoying isn’t it when your phone takes such nice pictures.

History is repeating itself.
I resisted the move to digital an clung on to my ‘traditional’ film SLR until our first holiday without the kids. I bought a huge, by today’s standards, video camera that had a little button that took digital stills. After day two of the holiday I left the SLR in the hotel and never went back to film.
Now, after a succession of dSLRs, I am about to abandon them for a phone!
Sacrilege and blasphemy.

dSLR's have their place. Cameras don’t zoom very well.

Very true. If I ever get back to a Grand Prix I would not be seen dead without my dSLR and a big lens.
Camera phones use a digital zoom rather than a physical movement of lens elements hence distortion creeping in when zooming. More recent phones have multiple, specialised lenses - mine has wide angle, normal and 3x zoom that tend to mitigate the old issues.
As an example, this is another one I took at Flamborough Head at the weekend. It’s using the phone’s telephoto setting and zooming in a bit more - I suspect some of the fuzziness comes from a slow shutter speed.
Acceptable in the circumstances.

That’s a pretty good result for a phone.it has my seal of approval.
