Hi Paul and welcome to the forum. Friendly helpful bunch on here so I'm sure someone will answer your question soon. It won't be me that's for sure :D

I had a word with somebody who I thought would know, and he said it would mean pouring over a copy of the old working timetable that the NRM may have or the Public Records Office at Kew.

Thanks Walkingthedog,

However, I have the relevant working timetables but they only tell you the class of the train and its timings.
Coal falls into the classification of "Mineral" (Class K) which covers a lot of items-iron ore, ballast, chalk etc.. We do get a slight clue with Class F trains when described as "empties". But this does not mean for sure that the empties are coal empties!

The document that may help me more is one that is called "Marshalling of Goods Trains" (I think!).
While I have locomotive and carriage working diagrams, unfortunately the Goods Train Marshalling documents seem to be rare and therefore expensive.

NRM and Kew are not early get to so if anyone has more knowledge of the above document, perhaps they can confirm the contents to me before I spend a lot of time and/or money buying a relevant copy or getting to NRM or Kew?

Many thanks
Paul

Hi All,
As promised last week, here is the latest version of the plan for "Partly Maidenhead".

Please bear in mind:-

Due to my poor drawing skills this is put together using sections from published plans, with a few hand additions of my own mainly around the Branch and the Goods Yard.
When I am happy with it I shall draw it out in 1/10th scale on graph paper.
I am not happy with the arrangement of the station as I only want the platform ends to appear in the scenic area at the far right. The idea is too allow more room for the Goods Yard in the prototypical place between the relief lines and the branch, rather than the current position in front of the station.

Apologies if the plan appears upside down, it is correct way up in the file it started in! This is my first upload to this site so may have missed doing something!!
Questions or constructive comments welcome.

Many thanks
Paul

Paul - you have not attached the image correctly. Can you try again - or go via Flickr? Let us know if you need guidance. R-

Sorry to all who could not see the plan!

It seemed ok (although upside down) when I previewed the post.
It will be Thursday before I have chance to play around with this further!

Cheers

Sorry for the delay in replying, its this time of year!

I am still wrestling with getting my plan on the system, think it is something to do with the system not liking the format of my file, which is jpg?
The preview of this post shows the plan (but upside down!) so I hope you can see it??

Anyway, so as not to waste a post if the pic does not work, here is a query on the 12 ins to a foot railway I need to solve, or make intelligent guesses as to what used to happen:-
During the 1950s and 60s for the 5.40am Reading to Princes Risborough Parcels, the WTT tells us that the light engine from this returned down the branch and went to Slough Shed. Was it a Slough engine that had reached Reading during the night, or a Reading engine that somehow worked back from Slough to Reading?
Did the same engine work back to Reading on the 8.10pm Maidenhead to Reading Parcels- here the WTT is no help as there is no LE identified coming out to power this parcels. If it did, surely it did not sit on Slough shed all day?

Any thoughts anyone?

Many thanks
Paul
