Brian, with that set up would I need two switches, one for each direction then maybe an ON-OFF-ON style switch. I have seen a similar set up somewhere.

For frog switching you only need a single micro switch which needs to be of the changeover type which has 3 terminals. The reason for having the facility to mount more switches to be actuated by the servo is to switch on other devices such as having automatic signal control where the movement of the point is used to set appropriate signals. Other uses might be for computer control where the computer will need to know how points are set before allowing trains to move. Another might be to set indicators on a control panel.

I am not sure about your ( ON)off(ON) question but if it is about how you operate the servo, that depends on your servo driver and how it accepts inputs? It is possible for a servo driver to be programmed to accept a single button press, one press to move the servo one way and a second to return it its start position.

Hello Richard, I think I must have had a brain fade earlier asking about that need for a switch. During the night it came to me where all complicated problems are solved.... thanks for the in put as it all helps to no end. This hobby sure has a steep learning curve but really enjoyable.
