When I did my passing out parade at Swinderby back in 69 We were doing our general salute to a Hercules which we had practiced for, then the parade officer called for another general salute which was not on the program, it was then we saw a Vulcan approaching low over the back of the families watching, no one heard or saw it until a large shadow came over head he then pulled up the nose and full powered away , the crowd nearly had heart attack and fell of there seats but what an awesome end to our passing out parade I’ll never forget the looks on the crowds face shear terror.

Hi, i live just a few miles from RAF Marham Norfolk & Lakenheath a few miles further on & we get a regular show of Tornados & Hercules as we seem to be on the landing flight path & occasionally get the Tornado's doing high-speed low-level flyovers at quite a few hundred miles an hour which is great, but you get about 00.100 of a seconds warning & the noise is instant with no warning & can make you freeze on the spot as its so intense. "I know how a rabbit feels now". It doesn't help to live near the top of the hill. "Yes! there are hills in Norfolk"
A few years back we knew the Vulcan was doing its last flight & would fly over RAF Marham & at that time, it was a lovely sunny day & we had scaffold up at the back of the house, so got the camera out & waited. We clearly heard it, but unfortunately never got the chance to see it.
We now have the Lightning's But haven't seen one at a low level as yet. When we had the scaffold up doing the roof, i even thought of an RAF roundel on the roof made out of roof tiles but thought i could be a target for other things. "Best not" We also get the Chinook helicopters fly over & you get about 3-4 minutes notice on these with such a distinctive sound you can hear them from miles away..
