You don’t need a different tender John if you use the plug and socket, just needs a bit of rewiring.

Brian if you look at the service sheet for this R number Brian... the loco used the old chassis and ring field motor block (empty block) using the block to use pickups ect ...The old chassis does not have a convenient place to mount the plug socket. I would not do it with the old ring field chassis anyway.

Must be space for those tiny Hornby sockets, they’re only 1/4 inch wide or less. :)

You have look at the old style ring field chassis under side Brian. It is very low down on the track. If you cut hole out to fit plug there is not much left to hold bottom of chassis together. I think it would weaken it on the underside. If you are going to do that you may as well just run couple of extention wire into the tender and solder to the pick up and front pin wire. That was you dont have to cut up the chassis bottom.

I agree it would be betterr without the plug. Maybe the socket could be in the loco??

Neither do I but as you brought it up I thought I’d discuss it. A bit of adjustment and a clean will do the trick.

Did I,,,,,,,, wish I hadn't,,,,,,,, I gave bad advice then. Must admit I had not looked at the chassis at that point and noticed it had the old ring field chassis. Any way that is my defence your honour................ :)
