Photographs indoors never show true colours unless you have the correct lighting. It will change as soon as you add the black bits.

I’ll let the black cure properly overnight before removing any more. I may yet redo the smokebox in weathered black.

With maroon/crimson lake, your guess is as good as mine.
It’s definitely not the muddy brown that Hornby used though.
