Forgive me re-running this piece, but the question posed by Mountain Goat is precisely what was

I like to build a track layout then run trains, not too worried about the landscaping side of things, as I sort of get board with the track layout after 6 months or so. My tastes are variable from all of the big 4 to BR Blue, I have a couple of Intercity mainline liveried Class 91 with DVT and MK4 coaches not keen on up to date modern image.

When running I like to have the correct coaches and rolling stock to go with the locos. I have no issues with running the old Triang, Triang/Hornby Wrenn under scaled basic detailed Locos and coaches, in some ways I prefer the simpler robust home repairable than today's more complex electronic fragile versions.

Currently I am interested in collecting and running Triang Transcontinental rolling stock including the Canadian National and Pacific liveried rolling stock.

"Hear, hear!" I love the old stuff, in part, for those reasons as well.

Personally I like trains to run through scenery. That scenery is a mix of places and buildings in Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyneside. The scenery is also a mixture of eras as I also like road transport, buses and trams. Therefore it is scenery that, although far from perfect (for the purist), is things I like.

The same with what is run, be it steam or diesel. Many of the diesel locomotives I have I saw at Gateshead shed.

The steam railway was a few locomotives getting a run round the layout, then grew into a fully fledged layout in its own right.

Then when the grandchildren arrive; I do not have any say what runs. I am relegated to signalman.
