In post #1 I mentioned my thread on the old forum where I put together a couple of these sound cards with some cheap speakers and a TF card - total cost per unit was about £5.

I used sounds freely available from the BBC to create both a country and a harbour scene. The sound files on there are subject to copyright but are free to use for personal use and are of a good quality.

Copyright is something I feel strongly about having seen photos used without permission.
Many seem to think that because something is on the internet, then it is free to use it as you will, but that is not the case.
In fact 'ownership' belongs to the person that pressed the button to capture the image or sound in the first place. The law recognises that any reuse of the work without 'specific written consent' is a breach of copyright.
For the majority of stuff out there posted by individuals, this is never likely to be an issue, but imagine a photographer whose sole income is from selling his work, who finds that images from his online catalogue are being used a) without permission and, more importantly, b) without payment of a fee.
He probably feels that his pocket has been picked.

I dare say wholesale copyright and plagiarism issues on a large scale may be a big deal to the owner as you say but I think you have taken my example way out of perspective. The sound of a passing steam train on my private layout, not seen or heard by others or sold for financial gain is hardly likely to attract the attention of the local magistrates. But if the cops do call round I'll know who grassed me.
