Thanks Chris - that's how I envisaged the arrangement in some cases, but I suspect that given the slightly cheaper aspect of these style terraces then the image posted earlier by Roger reflects what would be the case in this structure. Your example is what I referred to as extending the roof slates beyond a flush chimney. The problem being the draining of water down the flat face of the chimney into where it transitions into the wall.

One of the interesting features of rail modelling is how we are challenged by associated aspects like architectural modelling. I suppose it arises because we are in effect creating large scale working dioramas.

The main issue with Metcalfe buildings, apart from their steadily increasing prices, which is probably not their choice, is they are becoming so common. It is rare to see a layout in the press or exhibitions that is not populated with them.

This is perfectly understandable as they are easily and quickly constructed and, as shown here, can be improved by small additions.

I think we can easily forget that not every town in the UK looked the same or used the same colour bricks or indeed stone; though Scalescenes do offer different finishes for their downloadable offerings.

I think we can also forget that air pollution was a lot worse years ago and many town centre buildings were often a grimy black colour rather than bright pink!
