It was Tandy! I have still got a Tandy solar powered calculator I bought 30+ years ago.

I believe that Maplin tried to buy all (or most of) their shops when Tandy pulled out of the UK, but Carphone Warehouse beat them to it. I applied for a senior sales job with Maplin about this time as they had big plans to move more into the professional sector and compete with the like of Farnell and RS Components. However, it never happened and the rest is history. One particular question I remember from my interview was 'give as many reasons as possible for going to bed with your clothes on'!
That's rght, Tandy. I bought an analogue meter (AVO style) from them in their closing down sale, never use it LOL. How many reasons did you come up with LOL?

Sorry, think we dragged this thread way off course
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician

As always the advice was spot on, the decoder was successfully installed and the engine programmed. Thank you.

Disappointly the engine stalls on several points (not all) which I'm a touch surprised at as I deliberately stuck with Peco 100 to facilitate the running of some of my older engines. The intended detailing of the model, handrails, flush glazing, wipers etc and the respray into BR green is on hold while I decide what to do. The errant loco is just parked in the fueling road. Hmmm!

Does it pick up power from one side of the front bogie and the opposite side of the rear bogie. If so this is why it may stall on points. You will need extra pickups.

I have this issue on one of my locos. It is fine above a certain speed, but at realistic shunting speeds it always stalls on a particular point. I have tried all sorts of extra connections, but nothing seems to work. I am now wondering if there is too many power connections and it is confusing the DCC signal?
A theoretical option would be to add a stay alive capacitor, but this loco has a Next18 decoder and no facility to add that.

Sorry I've misled you, it SHORTS on certain points, not stalls.

But to answer the question raised, WTD - yes, pick up one side on one bogie and the other side of the other bogie.

Usually a short is caused by a metal wheel being able to either touch the inside face of a points open switch blade or it bridges the two rails at the crossing Vee.
You really need to add all wheel pick up from the rear wheels. Also its worthwhile to check the wheels B2B setting. 14.5mm in OO +/- 0.5mm
