The unnamed version is prototypically correct while the named version is a what might have been. The nameplates were made but never bolted on.

hi Steve, thanks for that and as you are talking about sound, just the other day on Facebook there was a post about the sound for these hush hush locos, the poster was advertising the sound files only for £15,but they were for zimo decoders, so you would need the relative programming equipment and the blank zimo decoder, not much good to most people including myself, hopefully like you say hornby might do a tts one. :) :)

Hornby may well have one in production, after all they produced a short run for the Railroad P2 they released a few years ago (no doubt to be re-released for 2007 PoW).

In the meantime I’m going with the Britannia (2 cylinders masquerading as 4) for the original W1 until they possibly do the ’right’ one. When the rebuilt W1 comes out, I will stick an A4 in it as the loco was then fitted with a modified A4 boiler and reduced to three cylinders.

Mine arrived but oddly there is no crew in the box. Gray no name plate. As it ran on the rails I understand.

Hornby locos rarely, if ever, come with a crew.

OK WTD did't know that. I read on another post that the crew would be fitted after painting them, and assumed they came in the box. I dont buy many locos new most of mine are second hand.

There are some amazing 3D printed figures around now.

Sandy, of that was my comment then I used 3D figures from Hardys Hobbies. IMHO better value than ModelU.

Mine arrived yesterday via Royal Mail,i was quite worried when opening because of the damage to the locos ,not from delivery but from the plastic cradle ,but to my delight it is perfect ,a real beauty ,I bought the British Enterprise version ,also came with etched name plates in the box ,a few jealous people on the Facebook train groups are saying how ugly it is, how they wouldn't accept it as a gift    ,

Far from ugly.
