Nice. Out of interest, how much does a standard half inch 8x4 sheet of ply cost these days? Last time I bought one was actually chipboard and would cost me just under £10 a sheet (Though was an inch thick) which I was told was a lttle on te dear side but not too bad. (My Dad was a carpenter)).

I am out of touch with wood prices these days.

For me, one of the best things about building a model railway is doing it your self.

An internet search shows Wickes and B & Q 12mm plywood (1/2 inch approx..) as being £34 Wickes and £35 B & Q for a 1220 x 2440 (4 ft x 8 ft) But these are not top quality ply and expect to pay at least 150% or more for quality!
My local specialist timber supplier is quoting Birch ply at £160.74 per sheet or Marine ply at £78.28/sheet. :o

I knew marine ply was expensive. My brother made a small garden shed from marine ply and assumed that because it was marine ply that it would withstand the elements. Five years later it had warped and in just ten years it had rotted through! I did tell him that it would need regular painting to preserve it, but he trusted the adverts who said it was made for the sea enviroment. (We have sea mists as we are on a hill near the sea so things rust or corrode quicker than if we lived down in the village below).

£30 at Wickes for ordinary ply. I reckon that's what you are referring to John. I bet marine ply is more than 36€.

Hi, Brian, yup not marine ply, but very flat, good quality.. i see no need for Marine Ply, for indoor use. Have no idea of price. Never seen it for sale here. Special order, perhaps. Difference here, is that oak, is cheap as chips. Harder to source pine. Douglas fir is normal softwood.

I only used ordinary ply on my layout. It is in a spare room so no reason why it should warp. A good frame should prevent any problems.
