Have installed the new decoders to the locomotives. They both light up momentarily the short out causing the powercab to turn off.

The circumstances are as follows:

-I saw both locomotives operating correctly under DC control with blanking plates fitted.
-When I got the locos home took out the blanking plates and put in the Bachmann chips, both locos "ran away" as soon as placed on the DCC programming track.
-I attempted to reset the chips by placing the locos on a rolling road.
-Both locos then became completely unoperable.
-After putting in replacement Dapol chips, both locos now cause the powercab to short out.
-i have stripped one loco down completely removing the bogies and motor and connected the circuit board to the progrqmming track, with the same resultant short circuit.
-I now have nearly £600 of inoperable train set :-(

Really at a loss as to what to try now

Best bet may be to contact Bachmann - they have a link to spares and repairs on their website.

An update, the issue is resolved. The problem appears to be that I inserted the decoders upside down.

You won’t have been the first to do that. Glad it is sorted.

It would save the manufacturer a great deal of grief if the plug was simply designed to only go in one way.

you can't put a 21 pin decoder in upside down, can you?

Very difficult to achieve as the 22nd pin hole is usually blanked off.

I suspect we all have similar ‘achievements’ on our modelling cv’s. ;)
