I hope your eBay issue is resolved soon.

As a note to any prospective sellers, don’t even think of sending anything to South Africa! I’ve just returned to the UK after living there for over forty years. The postal service is a nightmare with widespread theft and frequent strikes. The only way to get parcels through is to use a reputable (and expensive) courier company like DHL, even Royal Mail International Signed For isn’t safe.

A few years ago I tried getting eBay purchases sent to SA and only two out of eight arrived. Small items such as transfers and etched nameplates sent airmail in an envelope would sometimes arrive after 3 months.

The only way to get all the bits and bobs we railway modellers like was to get them sent to a UK address and collect them when on holiday in England.

I miss the sunshine but not the postal service.

I need to speak to eBay to confirm the exact meaning of this message, but at this stage it appears they have refunded him in full but do not intend to take this back from my PayPal account.

“A case has been opened because the buyer has an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of £82.00 without any impact to you.

This case is now closed. You aren't required to reimburse the buyer or eBay and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.”

Possibly a case of both buyer and seller protection working - but I will speak to them later to confirm.

sounds like a win, win, except he wins double, as he keeps loco as well.

That's great news for you if that is the case. I'm gobsmacked though as I've never known them do that before

It seems eBay can work for both parties. Just got this extra detail on the case.

eBay Customer Support has refunded the buyer.
We're issuing the buyer a refund for this case. You don't need to do anything else. This case won't be included when we evaluate seller performance. Note: It may take up to 24 hours to update in your Seller Dashboard.
Final decision:
You were not found at fault.
Transaction summary:
Any remaining funds from this transaction are available

Excellent result Steve. :D
On the rare occasions I sell on eBay I only sell to UK postal addresses and offer collection in person. ;)

Well, I’m not complaining. :D

I guess they agreed that I had done everything correctly and according to the rules and shouldn’t be penalised by some colonial upstart in Biddlybong, Idaho who couldn’t be bothered to go to the post office.
