All seems to be coming along nicely Steve. What it must be to have the nimble fingers, patience and eyesight to cope with N scale. :D R-

Trying out some hills for hiding the dumbbell loops at each end - ‘doodling in three dimensions’.

The old shuttle line to West Orton is at the base of the stone embankment - that may now swing away from the rear of the board and go into a new single tunnel under the hill to return as the shuttle control kicks in.

Finished the initial shaping and glueing of the polystyrene scenic breaks at each end of the layout. Also extended the shuttle through a new single track tunnel and rewired it to make it work.

Eventually both hill sections, which will be removable, will be encased in plaster bandage but I will leave them like this for the time being - as I develop ideas for scenery, it will undoubtedly be necessary to do a bit more carving.

I think my next job is to have a good tidy up and move some of the junk out of the shed before I think about possible changes to the engine yard to make entry and exit easier - I may substitute the hammer for a jigsaw.

Thinking about the restrictions in the engine yard and I've come to the conclusion that its the turntable that is the issue. Its simply in the wrong place!
This is down to me reusing a small experimental layout that I started building in the loft about eight years ago and the yard was entered from the right not the left as it is now.

So the TT has to go - it may relocate although the baseboard framing may ave something to say about that.

The plan is to install a small fan of points where the TT currently sits and reposition just the ends of the shed tracks, hopefully so that end of the layout doesn't need too many repairs.

Hello Steve
I am really enjoying this thread, reading about the resurrection of your layout. It takes a lot to be able to spot the flaws in a design and to remedy them. I'm looking forward to watching how your layout develop's further.

The turntable hole is now plugged - the three wood blocks are just there to support it while the glue dries. I’ve started assembling the points, which the postman delivered this morning, ready to slot in ready to realign the the shed lanes.
