Remarkable photo essay. I dare say I do find the B&W photos evocative. Perhaps I'm a bit daft,
but I find myself envying those plate layers working in the fresh earth under a gray sky.

One of those steam cranes was restored to working order a few years ago at the Blist Hill Victorian village by enthusiasts for a tv program and since them as been left outside in all weather and never run again, such a shame and what makes it worse is that it an industrial museum that’s neglecting it.

The Hornby R127 / R6004 crane referred to earlier in thread really benefits from the application of Cowan Sheldon individual lettering (using Slaters plastic alphabet parts) to its weight if appropriate to the crane being modelled and an application of correct transfers - Cambridge Custom Transfers sheet BL36
