Hello all
Little Weldon has now acquired its Locomotive Yard. It is still in need of detailing and a recruitment drive is needed, the same across the layout as a whole. Mass vacancies to fill. The size of baseboard on which the yard is constructed measures 3' x 18" .

Later today the lift out section in front of the doorway will be reinstated thus rebuilding the main lines and running can re-commense.

I like the space saving idea of having the locomotive shed at 90 degrees to the turntable tracks. A nice space saving touch. Did you run out of 3 rail track as the last two sidings look like 2 rail? Or was it to bend them in the tight space?

Mountain Goat you are right the two sidings at the rear coming off the turntable are indeed two rail. They consist of six pieces of Triang system 3.This was used as I didn't want to butcher either the HD turntable or any three rail track. The Dublo turntable has five exit roads I have used one of these as the entry road. Power for the trackwork is still through the factory made entry road.To which I have soldered wires to an eighth straight rail and then added a bufferstop.
The reason for creating these two dummy sidings was to be able to push both of the Superquick Coaling Stage and Ash Plant to the rear of the yard. As both of these structures are large they tended to over power the scene and blocked views of the Locomotives.
As space was so tight with the turntable taking almost half I could not squeeze in a HD locomotive shed I have had to bash a Superquick one to fit. There is an unwritten rule that all Hornby Dublo layouts must have a turntable.

I always wanted a HD 3 rail turntable but everytime I asked shops, dealers etc, everyone would say "We've not long sold one of them"... Each time I just missed out by a matter of weeks or days.
You could add a 3rd rail in those sidings. I used to run my three rail locos and stock on my 2 rail layout via either a 3rd rail or wire stretches over track pins and soldered under tension.

I could add the third rail to the Triang track and may well do at some point. It would mean doing clever things to the turntable to supply power to the bridge. At these additional exit roads. Maybe in the future.
I have done a bit of research and I am pondering if I could get away with the Airfix / Dapol Railway Workmen as they were introduced during 1963. They just about fall into my self imposed time span.

The Dapol workmen are perfect for your period. Lots of waistcoats and flat caps.

Hello all
So now the hunt has started for some of the Airfix railway workmen. I do not like the type of plastic that Dapol are using at the moment. I have been going through some old photographs today and came across these two of the layout which preceded Little Weldon.

This layout was constructed in a specially built unit in the Living room. The layout folded out from the top and measured 5' x 3'. The hinges were covered by the Water tank to the left and by the bridge to the right.

I find the Dapol figures take paint very well, are flash free and quite well detailed. They have also changed the base from the chunky Airfix version. I usually cut it off anyway.

A new locomotive has arrived at Little Weldon. Allow me to introduce you to D9012 "Crepello". She is a little unusual in the fact that she has a two rail body on a three rail chassis.
